Hello! I’m Kate Spain, a graphic artist living in Connecticut and trying to make the world a little brighter with my designs.
I’m a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and have been in the design and product development field for over 25 years. My career began designing children’s books at Simon and Schuster Publishing in New York City. The twists and turns I took from there eventually led me to follow my passion for art and design and to start my own business in 2008. Not exactly an opportune time to start a business, but the perfect time for a relentless optimist to be pushed to figure out how to make it work!
Over the years, my nature-inspired designs have been licensed by leading retailers and have appeared on fabric, bedding, pillows, rugs, stationery, gift wrap, kitchen textiles, calendars, tableware and many other home and lifestyle products.
My designs are influenced and inspired by my surroundings, wherever I may be. Landscapes and places serve up an infinite array of shapes, colors, textures - so I often have my camera at-the-ready to document what draws my eye to it. These images become a lively visual library that reflect my point of view that I then translate through drawing, painting, woodblock carving and printing. I believe our homes and lives are deeply enriched by our connection to nature. This idea keeps me striving to capture the vitality of the outdoors and searching for new ways to let that feeling and energy radiate in the designs I create.
