Hive: Intro to Garment Sewing - Wiksten Top
Interested in sewing garments but not sure how to get started? This is the perfect class for you! You'll stitch up a cute, easy fitting woven top, all while learning the basics of garment sewing from a pattern. The Wiksten top has a plain back with options for patch pockets and three quarter length sleeves. The neck is finished with an easy-to-sew facing.
Prerequisites: Sewing 101 or equivalent experience; students should be comfortable using their sewing machines and have some sewing experience
Class Prep: Please come to class ready with pre-washed and pressed fabric. This will help to ensure you get your garment finished during the class!
What to Bring to Class:
Suzi Axtell is a fashion design teacher who has taught at both the college and adult education level. She believes that sewing can awaken creativity in ways that are both fun and fulfilling. Suzi loves all aspects of the fabric world including indigo and natural dyeing, embellishments, bags, leather, canvas, and creative pattern making. Her students have sewn garments for themselves, as gifts for others, and some have even become professionals in the fashion world.
Details:
All classes at superbuzzy require prepayment and registration. In some cases we are able to accept enrollments on the day of class. All classes begin and end on time; please plan accordingly to get to class on time so that everyone can get started together and right on time!
Cancellations:
We know... life happens! Cancellations received 5 days prior to the first meeting are eligible for a credit toward a future class. Cancellations received less than 5 days prior to the first meeting forfeit their registration fee. We recommend you find an awesome buddy to take over your seat! Classes are subject to change or cancellation due to low enrollment.

- sewing machine
- basic sewing kit (scissors, rotary cutter, cutting mat, seam ripper, tape measure, straight pins, fabric marking pencil, and quilting ruler)
- Wiksten Shift Dress & Top pattern
- yardage of a light- to medium-weight fabric per pattern instructions for your size
- 1/4 yard Pellon Easy Knit or other lightweight, fusible interfacing
- Pellon Easy Pattern (optional, but recommended to trace your pattern so that you can cut multiple sizes from your paper pattern)
- coordinating machine sewing thread
About the Instructor:

Suzi is also a founder and designer with Axtell Expressions, an international puppet & animatronic company. Suzi is a fitness instructor, loves to walk her dogs, and garden when she is not working. She looks forward to sharing her love for sewing with you in her classes.
